How You’ve Grown | Atlanta Baby Photographer

One thing you come to terms with as a (baby) photographer is the idea of change as a constant; editing processes simplify, cameras become more intricately put together, and the babies you swear you just had a newborn session with last month are almost one year old and are back to see you for another round. Though all of these ring true to my life, the purpose of today circles around the latter. Let me just tell you how happy I was to have little man back for a sitting up session, but also – time, slow down, would ya?!

We first met Beau during his newborn session with Heidi last year. He was Mr. Personality even then, so to see him now was full on entertainment. He absolutely lit up the entire studio. Once little man’s family came in, got settled and unloaded, baby Beau was ready to explore, and I got the low-down on the happenings since we last met. As always, I love getting caught up on all of the milestones our babies surpass – sitting up being one of Beau’s.

We began doing sitting up sessions when we looked at our girls – my three and Heidi’s one – only to realize how much time had passed and that it showed no intention of slowing down. We, being photographers, have been blessed to be able to capture a lot of special moments with our children, and we wanted to give that opportunity to others around us. These moments are not coming back, so let them be celebrated and memorialized right here and now.

As you can tell from Beau’s session, we really hone in on capturing each personality. No baby is the same and we really just go with what we feel works with each session and child. This keeps the photos genuine and true to our subjects.

Since introducing sitting up sessions, I have had an excuse to do MORE prop shopping – Beau’s crown being one of the new additions. Thank you, Seed Factory. To see more of our sitting up session, look here.

Cheers to the weekend,

xx Jess

Families | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

Families – one of my favorites aspects about being a newborn photographer. I absolutely love being able to spend time with all of the lives brought together by love and new life. I have been doing this so long now that I have had the privilege of spending time with several families more than once, like the marvelous Myung family for example. This little bundle of joy is their second. I was so excited to photograph him OUT, because I caught some pretty beautiful photos of his mother while he was still IN. But I’ve known these wonderful people long before little bundle arrived. Big brother was actually a newborn model for us when we first began doing studio light – which we love, by the way. I am still not sure what took us so long to switch. Anyway, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly they grow, and big brother is growing up at what seems to be lightning speed. This family (and now this session) has been a favorite of mine for quite some time.
You may recall my love for mulling over layouts of photo albums and keepsake frames. If not, to put it lightly – I adore it! Baby Myung and big brother both have matching albums and in remembrance of their big debut, the two also have framed birth announcements (insert my excitement here) at home. As a mom of three, framed birth announcements come highly recommended by me. Just as we get the names of our little ones mixed up from time-to-time, birth stats are often jumbled, too. Even more than that, I love walking out of my girls’ rooms and glancing at that reminder of the three best days of my life. It gives me a quiet, special moment each time. Don’t just take my word for it, read some of our customer testimonials.
Mommas, if you are expecting and interested in a maternity session, we would love to have you. It’s simply a $250 add-on to our newborn sessions.
Until next time. Have the most wonderful Thursday!

Wide Awake | Atlanta Baby Photographer

In life, the sooner you learn to just roll with punches, the better off you will be. In the baby photographer business, this lesson is something we live by on a daily basis.

A prime example is when we had this little guy in the studio recently, and he decided to stay awake during majority of his session. I was able to capture a few shots, but after that those handsome eyes opened up and the curiosity took over. Thankfully, he was so content with simply watching my every move, that the session was still an absolute breeze. I will give majority of the credit to his parents, whom made a perfectly chill, little guy. For that extra little bit of perfect behavior, I would also like to thank The Baby Shusher that we keep in the studio as well. That miracle worker gave us a little extra boost in our soothing ambiance, which, as you can see, allowed us to effortlessly work through different takes and outfits changes, while still being able to capture gorgeous shots.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret…special gestures are my love language. So, when this family told me they drove all the way to me – in Buckhead – from south of Atlanta, I was so touched. It is simply the idea that a family saw our work – and read about us on Experise’s list for “Best Newborn Photographers in Atlanta” – packed up their belongings and made a trip to this little studio, because they thought we could capture their special milestone the best. That means the world to us. Call me biased, but I definitely think these shots were totally worth the drive. We are currently working on putting together one of our beautiful albums for them. I cannot wait to see the turnout.

Thank you for allowing us to do what we do. Xoxo.

All Boy | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

One thing I love about newborn sessions is the ability to turn almost any ordinary, household item into some sort of a makeshift cradle. Want the most adorable example of that ever? Que little man Levi and his wooden baskets. We went all boy with this little guy; adding in our cozy, brown-scheme blankets, real-wood baskets, and navy- and tan-striped beanie. This smiley, little hunk is the cutest little woodland creature I ever did see.

Levi is the fifth addition to his beautiful family, and is well protected by an older brother and sister. I have said it once before and I will say it one million times more – I absolutely LOVE when I am able to add in siblings. For me, it’s like I get a little peek of the older kids’ tenderness and awareness for just how small their new little brother or sister is, and it gives me all of the heart eyes.

For the moments when baby Levi wasn’t being cuddled by family, we made sure he felt just a soothed by using our go-to baby whisperer, the Marpac Dohm sound machine. When I say this is a miracle worker, I mean it. I even use it with my three little girls!

Lastly, I was able to tap into my second hobby with this family – home decor. Here at the studio, we have a beautiful array of frames and albums that we love to put together at the family’s request. It’s an even sweeter treat when I’m gifted the opportunity to come place them in our clients’ homes. I am so looking forward to how beautiful their three custom frames are going to turn out – absolutely gorgeous.

If you’re looking for a lighter color scheme for your baby boy, take a look at Desmond’s session. How cute is that beanie, y’all?

Have a wonderful weekend. Xoxo.

Atlanta Newborn Photography | Family Reunion

When a family tells me they are coming in for a newborn photography session, I think, “okay – let’s make sure the studio has everything Mom and Dad might need while they are here.” Well, with this particular session, I had a few more people to think about.

For the Vayman crew, our session was a full on family affair. In addition to mom, dad and baby, both sets of grandparents came – two flew in for the special occasion – along with the wonderful great-grandmother. Let me just tell you…watching great-grandma hold that baby boy was a sight I pray I carry with me for the rest of my life. There is something about a seeing the family matriarch, well into her 90s, holding the newest family addition – barely 9 days old. My eyes well up just thinking about. So much life lived and so much yet to come. It is absolutely amazing

While on the topic of beautiful moments, let me just gush over mom and that white dress for a second. I mean, hello. Not only was she a vision in white, but a maternal vision at that. There was something about that dress…it gave her a sort of air about her. A strong, yet vulnerable vibe that only mothers can truly posses. Something that says, “I will protect you as my own, but also, here’s my heart – take it.” Motherhood looks good on her, I must say.

People always ask me what they should wear and I always tell them, “whatever feels best.” Mom and Dad dress differently each time and I love to have the variety. One thing I will say, however, is to keep your outfits simple. For another example of what to wear, take a look at our recent sitting-up session with this cutie and momma.

It was such a joy to have this family in our studio. We know that crazy, on-the-go family moments like this are inevitable, so to help you tackle them like a pro, Fawn Design has created a beautiful diaper bag for all of you parents in need. All of their stuff is on my wishlist!

Until next time.
