Feeding the Homeless Christmas 2011

In 2005 a friend asked us if we wanted to join his family and a couple of other families serving coffee and sausage biscuits to the homeless on Christmas morning . It was a very informal project, in fact we really didn’t know exactly where we were going that morning. Our good friends, Kent and Jan Stair, and their daughter, Hannah, were at our home Christmas Eve and we were telling them about our plans and Jan asked if they could join us. The Stairs rushed home and I do believe they cooked up all the food in their house and met us the next morning! Our group was 3-4 vehicles driving around downtown Atlanta looking for homeless people. After wandering around for a while we found a number of people under an overpass and distributed our coffee and food. Thus began what was to grow into the effort we were all a part of this past Christmas morning. The next several Christmas’s saw the group grow by several families and individuals and then Kent encouraged the great people at Carlock, Copeland, and Stair to become involved and this took the Christmas morning project to a whole new level! It is now so much more than just coffee and biscuits!!! Kent and his extraordinary organizing skills along with his compassionate employees, have taken this small group and grown it into what you see in the pictures. Many people who cannot make it on Christmas morning work beforehand (like Santa’s elves) and gather casual and interview type clothing, shoes, toiletries, and food. Kent also got Carlyle’s Catering involved and they serve a hot breakfast. It has been a tremendous blessing for our family to be a part of this and to witness the enthusiasm of all involved . A special thanks to Kent for his leadership, to the employees of Carlock, Copeland and Stair and to numerous friends and families who also join them.
